Lancaster
Lancaster, South Carolina is known as the Red Rose City and is a part of the Olde English District in South Carolina consisting of 7 counties across the upstate, that were settled by the English in the 1770′s, and also was the site of many a fierce battle during the Revolutionary War. In fact, Andrew Jackson who was born in nearby Waxhaw, NC, called Lancaster his boyhood home.
Lancaster was actually originally called Barnettsville, but was settled by inhabitants from Lancaster, Pennsylvania and eventually took the same name. However, locals will be quick to tell you, it’s not pronounced the same way, with no emphasis on any one syllable.
It features a wide variety of homes, from antebellum mansions, large farms, to planned subdivisions to affordable apartments. It’s location just an hour south of Uptown Charlotte along Highway 521, many South Carolina Tax Benefits, and location just inside the border, make it a desirable place for many to call home.
